Cadets learn basic first aid in areas such as CPR, bites and stings, poisoning, fractures and breakages, heat and cold exposure, which are the most common types of injuries that occur. Symptoms of these injuries and illnesses are covered, as well as the proper treatments. In addition to this, cadets are instructed in preventative procedures to avoid injury.
First aid is an important skill with a variety of utilitarian purposes. Medical situations may occur at any time, and the application of first aid may lessen the adverse impacts of injury or even save a life.
Not only does first aid help save lives and prevent further injury in the case of a situation, a knowledge of basic first aid fosters an awareness of potential dangers and hazards, as well as promoting quick thinking in stressful situations.
